Time to get your Summer Harvest Honey!

Honey Paddle is a 13-acre apiary featuring the sale of delicious bee-crafted honey. Each year they experiment with planting different cover crops for the bees to craft delightful versions of McKenzie honey.

Its owners Amber and Brian were displaced by the fires last year, and also lost many of the farm’s hives to smoke, yet they were determined to rebuild and come back even stronger this year.

Back in November 2020, the McKenzie Community Development Corporation collaborated with Honey Paddle to provide fire-affected families in the McKenzie with holiday gift boxes, which contained a voucher for a half-pint of the Summer Harvest honey.

You can now redeem your voucher for a jar of beautiful raw McKenzie Blossom Honey this Saturday (August 14th) at the McKenzie Treasures Saturday Community Market.

If you can’t make it to Iron Forest this weekend, the Upper McKenzie Community Center will help to distribute the honey to the community, and jars will be available from next week during their Library/Cooling Center opening hours.

Can’t find your voucher? Well, we won’t hold it against you. If you’re a local, come along and get your free honey, we’ll take your word for it!

And if you don’t have a voucher, are not a local, or just would like to pay forward the sweetness of this gift, you can contribute to a good cause while you’re there. The MCDC has kindly agreed to donate any surplus honey from its allocation to support a fundraiser for the rebuilding of the Blue River Park which is looking to improve its facilities and create a beautiful and safe place for the local community and visitors alike to enjoy. All honey-related donations will go directly towards that.

Perhaps we can raise enough to build a beautiful pollinator’s garden for our essential buzzy friends? Ideas, questions, and feedback welcome as always, just email alice@mckenziecommunity.org
