One Dime at a Time – The Bottle Boys are Community Heros!
Our very own Blue River Bottle Boys have so far raised well over $10k for community organizations recovering from the Holiday Farm Fire and are still out there collecting and sorting cans and bottles. Hats off to Monty Wilson and Pete Petty for showing us how it’s done!
The indomitable team was recently recognized, for the second time, by Oregon BottleDrop for their incredible work and even won extra funds for our valley in a Facebook social media competition!! Proving you are never too old to rock Facebook or to make a difference through hard work and dedication to your neighbors. Watch their inspiring competition entry video above.
In honor of Mother’s Day, we presented Priscilla Oxley and Gerri Aster with donation checks of $1000 each for the O’Brien Memorial Library and the Vida McKenzie Community Center. We have been using the Market in Leaburg as a sorting center for our”dime at a time” fundraising and we want to thank Jon Payne, the Market owner for his support. – Pete Petty
Walt Wilson and the VMCC’s Architect showed off the plans for the new building and raised more money for the cause at a bake sale in the Old McKenzie Fish Hatchery last month with more events planned. Check here for more info. In May alone The Bottle Boys have donated $1000 each for the O’Brien Memorial Library and the Vida McKenzie Community Center
Jon Payne, owner of The Leaburg Store is hosting a bottle drop at the gas station so please bring along your returnable bottles and cans so we can help keep the McKenzie clean of litter and make a little money at the same time. Jon, Walt, Larry Brown, and Jeff Dehne of the CDC got stuck in this week sorting the huge pile of cans residents had donated so far in May and helped Pete load them up into his famous rusty chariot for transport to Eugene.
One Dime at a Time people like Monty and Pete are supporting the local organizations we all rely on to build towards a brighter future for the valley so if you can help in any way or even just thank them when you cross paths it’s the least we can do.
