Alert: High Heat Tips, Video & Resources

Source: Portland Bureau of Emergency Management

Today and tomorrow, temperatures will reach 90 degrees or higher, with the hottest times of day between 2 pm to 8 pm. Very hot weather can cause heat-related illness and death, especially earlier in the season before our bodies are used to warm temperatures. The most sensitive groups are children, seniors, those with medical conditions, and people who work outside or have no access to cool indoor spaces.

High Heat Tips:

  • Drink lots of water.
  • Stay in a cool indoor place or stay in the shade.
  • Take it easy — move around less to stay cool.
  • Know the signs of heat stress and heat stroke (graphic attached).
  • Check on sensitive people.
  • Never leave people or pets in a car during hot weather.
