LANE COUNTY, Ore. — A piece of history has been discovered in the destruction from the Holiday Farm Fire.

The Vida-Mckenzie Community Center was burned in the Holiday Farm Fire, with only the concrete portions still standing.

It was demolished on Friday, and residents found something long-rumored to be in the cornerstone of the building — a time capsule from 1949.

Inside was a short history of the establishment and the people who set it up.

“This is exciting,” said Walter Wilson, the president of the Community Center. “I don’t know what I expected and I was hoping beyond hope that we would be able to find something here.”

Residents there say it’s sad to see the rest of the building go down, but say it’s also symbolic of the rebuilding that’s happening in the McKenzie Corridor after the Holiday Farm Fire.

Wilson says it’s exciting to see new trees being planted and new construction starting on homes.
