McKenzie Community Communications.
McKenzie Community Communications is an initiative being developed by a team of community members. Their goal is to provide a modern, resilient, dependable, and durable communications infrastructure that is critical to the safety of local residents as well as supporting tourism in the valley.
The team’s primary goal is to provide affordable residential internet service to community members who have inadequate or no service as well as those who may currently have some access to the larger Internet Service Providers. The team also intends to explore installing GMRS repeaters at tower locations and also have portable repeaters available to dispatch in the event of another emergency such as the Holiday Farm Fire.
The McKenzie River community has a long road of rebuilding ahead. One of the team’s long-term goals is to support and help fund future internet infrastructure projects in order to respond to emergencies quickly and effectively. They also intend to share their experiences with other rural communities and offer assistance to set up Wireless Internet Service Providers in other areas.
