FEMA Disaster Preparation & Hazard Mitigation Resources

The FEMA Hazard Mitigation mission, to protect lives and prevent or reduce the loss of property from hazard events, aligns directly with the FEMA Mission Statement of helping people before, during, and after disasters. Hazard Mitigation is defined as sustained action taken to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to people and property from hazards and their effects.

One of the missions of Community Education & Outreach is to promote reduction of future losses through education of successful mitigation practices, which may prevent the repeat of the same losses. We provide educational materials, brochures and factsheets on hazard mitigation topics relevant to the disaster.

The Floodplain Management and Insurance mission provides Technical Assistance to NFIP Communities and Region X Staff. We prepare outreach efforts virtually to promote flood insurance and show the applicant how to protect against future financial losses from flooding. We also provide insurance materials to them as well as agents in the affected area and throughout the state. We have a “Flood Insurance Package” that we email to agents that include brochures, documents on summary of coverages, zoning issues and more. Our objective is to reach out to as many agents, applicants and the communities as possible,

Below you will find a list which has been compiled specifically for the issues at hand as a result of this event. Links and QR codes are displayed next to the name of the publication however we may also email the PDF to you if requested.

We encourage you to review these documents and implement the efforts which you feel are best for your situation. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at:
