Community members are raising money to help rebuild the Blue River Library, which was one of hundreds of structures destroyed in the Holiday Farm Fire last September.

A permanent replacement for the library is a few years off. Alice Bonasio with McKenzie Community Development Corporation says they’re hoping to set up a mobile library to bring books, technology, and other resources to the community as it rebuilds. Bonasio says a gofundme fundraiser pages set up by the Lane Library League has raised nearly 12,000.

“The Blue River Bottle Boys who are collecting bottles and cans for the deposits,”Bonasia adds.  “That was one of the major sources of funding for the library before but since the fire they’ve been on overdrive.”

Bonasio says the bottle boys have raised about 3 thousand dollars to help rebuild. Their sister library in Leaburg is now taking donations of books and other materials for the Blue River Library.
