Bureau of Land Management Shares Smoke Reminder

As the weather becomes warmer and drier, please be on the lookout for smoke on your public lands!

Earlier this week, firefighters responded to a report of a smoke within the Holiday Farm Fire burn perimeter. They discovered a smoking snag north of Highway 126 near milepost 46.

The snag is surrounded by burned ground and the potential for fire to further ignite or spread is very low. The area will continue to be closely monitored.

Lingering pockets of heat within the interior of large fires are common. Fire often burns roots deep underground, which hold heat through the winter months. They can easily reignite or produce smoke when warmer, drier spring conditions arrive.

We anticipate more interior smokes from the 2020 wildfires.

If you see smoke, please call 911. Each identified smoke will be assessed and addressed while upholding public safety as the highest priority.
