McKenzie River Fire Restoration Shed Build Project

Students from McKenzie School District will begin working with the Blue River Community to build replacement sheds for those who lost a structure in the devastating Summer 2020 McKenzie River Area fires.  These 8’ X 8’ sheds will be assembled from kits at the school and, upon completion, will be delivered to respective home owners sites for set-up and roofing.  The goal is to start work on 5 sheds, with potential to build an additional 15-20 by extending this work beyond the month of April.  As other Lane County high schools and Lane Community College prepare for in-person instruction, their students will also build sheds at their home schools that will be later delivered up-river.

How to get involved – The McKenzie River Fire Restoration Shed Build Project can use construction sector support in multiple ways:

  • Volunteer a small crew to work side by side with McKenzie School District students to assemble the sheds.  Offer mentoring/support for them to learn valuable construction skills.
  • Provide delivery, roofing and final construction set-up at the homeowner’s site.  Flatbed trucks will be needed to haul the sheds from the school to the homeowner.
